What we currently know about the underlying mechanisms of ageing and the effects of fasting on these mechanisms suggests that fasting should slow the ageing process. There is also solid evidence that fasting improves some of the markers associated with ageing, but to conclude that fasting actually slows ageing down will require more robust human evidence. Perhaps getting hung up on ageing itself is missing half the point, though. Even if fasting doesn’t make you biologically younger, it will help you live a longer, healthier life free from chronic diseases of ageing.
