Posted on 2 December 2020

Longevity briefs provides a short summary of novel research in biology, medicine, or biotechnology that caught the attention of our researchers in Oxford, due to its potential to improve our health, wellbeing, and longevity.

Dr. Peter Attia is a practicing physician, former endurance athlete, researcher, and an expert on all things nutrition, exercise and longevity. He is also the host of The Drive; a popular science podcast that covers all aspects of health and wellbeing.

In this brilliant talk at MIT, Peter eloquently breaks down the fundamentals of longevity and aging science in an extremely accessible way. Focussing on the objectives, strategies and tactics for living a longer, healthier life.

The breakdown:

  1. Peter’s personal journey
  2. The two components of longevity: lifespan and healthspan – (8:00)
  3. The study of centenarians – (24:30)
  4. Life extension in animal studies – (38:30)
  5. The molecular mechanisms of aging – (52:00)
  6. What you can do to slow your rate of aging – (57:00)

Although it is an hour long, this talk is an excellent introduction into the world of geroscience, the study of ageing.
